it was a combined mortar, RPG, and infantry attack. we always have to expect an attack from the enemy. it preps us mentally and physically. it's like......... if it happens, we're somewhat ready, hoooraah!!.......... if it don't, excellent, hooraah! just the same. it so happen that the attack was not quite the break of dawn yet........ so some are still asleep, except for the guards and early birds. it was pretty hot that night, as I recall. ;) :) 8)..and of course a love story (love of country). 8) u guys are admirable..and yes, u guys have to do it coz some of us here just can't. ::) 8)

I guess it's easier to speak out here in the forum. I really don't talk much about it at work or even with family. my brother, my cousins, and even a cousin-in-law are serviceman, yet we never talk about this kind of subject. ;) :) 8) my uncles who are retired military asks me, but I always ended up avoiding the topic. funny........... it actually feel enlightened or uplifted instead or remorseful speaking about it. hmmmmmm............. good thing I don't have PTSD. for those poor fellas who are diagnosed with it.......... it's not really love for the job.......... it's more on......... what I did overseas.......... what I'm might end up doing in the line of duty........... I feel and prep myself mentally that I'm doing something worthwhile and for the good of the many......... regardless of how tough or how sensitive it may be. I'm not the type of person that would hurt anyone in anger or just for the heck of it......... there has to be a major and extremely important reason to do so. heck, I don't even honk my horn when somebody cuts me off the freeway/roadway......... and we have so many idiot drivers (non-driving mofo, according to one of my army buddies. hehehe) here in California. sometimes I wonder where they got their driver's license from. ;) :) 8)for my 3 years here in the US--i haven't gone 'beep beep' either. 8)

some are so quick on that horn......... they even hold it just to be annoying. and some would honk once they're on the clear (doesn't make any sense to call the other person's attention). what they don't realize is that they might end up piss a sociopath one day and they'll be very sorry. happened to me one time.......... there was this guy on the freeway who was moving a bit too slow for the rest of the motorists........... so, I just sped up a bit to pass him on the other lane. then, he lowered his window and shouted at me (for unknown reason), cut me off, and slowed down in front of me. I stopped on the side......... and he did to. he got out of his car and was about to walk towards me. but then he stepped back towards his car when I stepped out of mine. I guess he saw the badge that was attached on my belt. and that was the end of it. 8)that's scary..if sombody honks at meh, i just use my peripheral vision & rearview mirror to check what's wrong. Looking straight at them would just elicit more honking, yelling, cursing, evil eyeing, etc..etc..I don't think there's anything i can do to appease these raging drivers..their reactions are usually exaggerated and their anger level heightens within seconds. Nah, don't want to deal with these people--unless i am sombody with the badge. ;D

I'll initiate CPR on you. we, were given a trauma kit (mainly for personal use. i.e. gunshots).......... and some (very few are trained by the department) can sign-out defibrillators, I heard.i don't get it. ;D u shud train for a defibrillator sir, it's a lifesaver so it's cool. 8) most defribillators are user-friendly. I can teach u how, or youtube will. ;)

everything has to go through channels and of course.......... has to be departmentally authorized. I can't even sign out an M-16A1 rifle for the longest since the department haven't trained me, even though I can assemble/disassemble one (army trained) with my eyes closed. the reasoning is that......... California is a sue-happy state and los angelenos are notorious on suing the LAPD. so, for example, if an officer don't have a defibrillator 'coz he's not authorized to carry one due to non-training.......... no one can sue him or the department. everything has to be within policy. besides training for the use of.......... we even have to experience being sprayed with pepper spray (OC spray) and being tased. 8)i see..just like us, we can't do a medical procedure unless we're credentialed to do it (we have to go thru credentialing in every hospital we work)..unlike back home in the Phils where I still can do C-sections and surgical procedures. ::)

LAPD uniformed officers' lunch/dinner breaks don't have a set time and is always have to be requested. reason being is that there is no set time in responding to radio calls. that's why officers have to be creative (something one learn throughout the years. hehehe) when requesting for breaks. as much as I'm tired of power bars, I still keep them handy in my war bag and my pockets......... and it quite disgust me during summer time. but I think it's just this agency............. I have friend from another agency and they don't have to request permission......... they just go on breaks whenever they want. ;) :) 8)i see..if i were in ur line of work, i'll probably bring peanut butter & jelly sandwiches..but i know that it won't taste as good after a year.hehe

Back in the Philippines, when i was doing post-grad medical internship (crazy 24-48hour-hosp calls), i used to bring hard-boiled eggs just in case i dnt get the chance to grab som food. 8)
I started doing that after i passed out in the operating room while assisting surgery. Turned out my blood pressure was way low (dehydrated from too much work) and my blood sugar was also low (hypoglycemia) coz i was so busy to eat. ::)
imagine keeping a peanut butter sandwich in my war bag in the trunk of the unit.......... during the summer heat?........or.......... inside my shirt pockets?........... how 'bout boiled eggs??....... in the war bag........ in the trunk of the car?.......... on summer time?
