Thanks Erika, it was indeed a great moment and so blessed that day, everything went smoothly as planned. Kevin and his dad were very supportive, after the ceremony, we ate at a Thai Food Restaurant and celebrated. They were so happy for me.

How long as a gc holder before finally securing your citizenship? Remember has always been like that -- takes ages.

When I came to Australia on pr in '80, took me only 3 yrs to become an Aussie. Later, was reduced to 2. Now, like US, also takes ages.
Wasn't planning to become one. Live here 5 yrs max, then, return home for good.
The murder of Sen. Aquino changed everything. The Philippines was in turmoil. Peso value nosedived. On the brink of civil war. Expected to fall into communism anytime soon. TNT/FM surged. Not advisable to go home.

Now, want to go home for good ... retire and marry a 16-yr-old lovely Pinay whose brain is a gold mine. In the spring of her life ... her whole life in front of her ... help her lead a better life.
Teach her which ropes to pull ... then, skipper yacht ... eventually, own yacht when gone.

Again, not advisable. Too many haters ... inggiteros ... lazy parasites ... ungrateful bigots ... crab mentality ... colonial mentality ... etc ... etc ...

No wonder that country is still a gutter and will stay that way forever. :-[

Yes, indeed! Fate is inexorable. :(

Don't believe him. Due to terrorism, US is one of the 5 most difficult to migrate. No point, anyway. Americans are leaving US in record numbers. Hehe :) ;)

Australia has job opportunities but in regional areas, eg., mining industry. After what happened to me, wouldn't recommend migrating. Work long enough to amass a small fortune, then, start business in the Philippines. Actually, the Philippines has shortage of engineers. Dunno what else. Pay is relatively less but if you have a thriving business also, can live a reasonably rich life.

Trending for foreigners to go to Philippines as expats. Marry Pinays. But there's a growing concern with tackling parasite in-laws.
Aside from colonial mentality, another reason Pinay prefer puti bcoz puti are naïve to Filipino culture. Mas sayon sla hukhukan. ;D ;)

Looking back through all those years, must admit nagpayabang ako. Being super generous with my periodic remittances was a show off -- my way of telling them that I topped them all.

Ang nangyari, nawalan sla ng gana mag-abroad. Hehe :) ;)

Mark my words, skipper, should RJ land on a mining job here, mamuti na lang ang iyang bol2x, he'll still be at it.
Having so much money, gonna have a spendthrift lifestyle.
Towards the end of a contract, he'll promise to himself, "Should my contract be renewed, I'll have a 2-month break and cruise Europe on board the Queen Mary with Kim Kardashian as my travel companion". Hehe ;) Not to mention that during week-off, spend the time in Bali having top-of-the-range Balinese girls to entertain him.

Difference between then and now is the FIFO. Mine workers won't be spending a very long time in the mines.

Ay,nako! Ang sarap ng buhay. :) ;)

Money talks. ;D

When I applied for taking the board exam in '72, had problem with my birth certificate 'coz name is "Baby". A very common practice in the Philippines when parents have not yet decided on the real name.
Normally, an affidavit is all that's required to fix. But bcoz my surname is Chinese and Chinese = money, they insisted on a court order and stamped my application as "CONDITIONALLY APPROVED".

Similar with your case. US = $. Aren't you glad you're now a US citizen? ;D ;D ;D

More on this …..

Exam was held in August. The hearing never took place. September 22, 1972, President Marcos declared martial law. Every public servant was ordered to tender his/her resignation. Court system was revamped. Naloko na! ::)

Results were publish in March, following year. My name appeared! ??? :-\ My guess is that the Civil Service Commission (now, Professional Regulatory Commission) people were concerned might lose their job. :D

Yeah, strange  are the works of fate! Hehehe :) ;)

Like Obama, too.

But what gets me p#ssed is his indifferent attitude towards Australia's intolerance issues.

Eg.,
In Australia, every animal, except the male homo sapiens, enjoys protection from abuse.

Australia is still a racist country. >:(

In rich countries like Australia, kidney failure is a chronic disease. Sa ato, might as well be a terminal disease tungod sa gasto. ::) 8)
ANALYSIS
By ROMINA ANGANGCO DANGUILAN

The cost of treatment is not limited to the cost of dialysis. Rather, the cost is multiplied a hundredfold, and becomes the burden of an entire family

Each year an estimated 120 Filipinos per million population (PMP) develop kidney failure. This means that about 10,000 Filipinos need to replace their kidney function each year.

Sadly, in 2007 only 7,267 patients started dialysis or received a kidney transplant directly. Only 73% received treatment because they were able to get to a hospital providing dialysis or could afford the therapy. The acceptance rate of treatment for kidney failure in the Philippines is only 86 PMP, compared to 100 PMP in South Korea, and 300 PMP in the United States (accessed from the International Federation of Renal Registries in 2000 Web site). A quarter of Filipino patients probably just died without receiving any treatment last year.

The leading cause of kidney failure in the Philippines is diabetes (41%), according to the Philippine Renal Disease Registry Annual Report in 2008, followed by an inflammation of the kidneys (24%) and high blood pressure (22%). Patients were predominantly male (57%) with a mean age of 53 years.

Thus, diabetic males in the most productive years of their lives comprise the population who received treatment for kidney failure in 2007. They require replacement of their kidney function to live. Without dialysis or kidney transplantation, patients with kidney failure die.

Options for treating kidney failure

Patients developing kidney failure can choose between dialysis and kidney transplantation as treatment for their illness. Dialysis comes in the form of hemodialysis (HD) where the patient’s blood is made to run through a series of tubes which removes poisons and excess fluid that have accumulated in the blood, and is then returned to the patient. A hemodialysis session lasts for four hours and needs to be done three times a week to adequately replace sufficient kidney function for the patient to live. The patient needs to travel to a dialysis unit each time for treatment.

Another option is peritoneal dialysis (PD), where a permanent tube is placed in the patient’s abdomen, and the patient’s own membrane acts as the artificial kidney. Special fluid enters the abdominal cavity and stays there for several hours, and the poisons and excess fluid transfer from the blood to the fluid, which is drained out of the body. This process is done daily, three to four times a day. Patients are trained to perform this type of therapy by themselves at home.

The best way to replace kidney function though is to transplant another kidney into the patient through a surgical procedure. Only another kidney can completely replace kidneys shrunken because of disease. Dialysis only provides about 15% of kidney function. It is enough to sustain life, but needs to be performed regularly, and for life.

Cost of treatment

Adequate dialysis costs from P25,000 to P46,000 per month or P300,000 to P552,000 annually. If one is able to afford this lifelong treatment then the patient will be well enough to return to his normal way of life, and just apportion time for dialysis treatment. However majority of Filipinos cannot afford this costly treatment for more than a year. A study at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), a tertiary government hospital providing services for kidney disease, showed that half the patients who start dialysis are dead within a year, presumably because they could not afford sufficient dialysis.

Most Filipinos pay for their treatments without any subsidy from insurance. Phil health covers about 51% of the annual cost of treatment, if the maximum benefit is claimed. The patient therefore has to pay for half of the treatment or at least P150,000 per year. According to NKTI, only 15% of the partially-subsidized patients are Philhealth members. Thus they have to pay for most of the treatment, and are reliant on government assistance to afford any treatment.

This results to patients who can afford only partial therapy, which may be sufficient to exist, but not enough to live. Patients without sufficient dialysis are weak and display many of the symptoms that led to their diagnosis. They are malnourished and unable to work, existing only until the next dialysis treatment, whenever that may be.

In a survey conducted by five kidney specialists on patients with chronic kidney disease from Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, from May to July 2002, only 46% of 182 patients prescribed dialysis were able to start treatment. Among those who started dialysis, 96% had inadequate treatment because they could not afford it.

A family’s burden

Unfortunately, treating kidney failure is a burden borne not only by the patient, but by the entire family. A family member or caregiver is needed to care for the patient, attend to medications and meals, and assist in providing treatment, whether by performing dialysis itself with PD or accompanying the patient to an HD facility. Commonly, a family member has to stop working to care for the dialysis patient. The patient is too weak to provide self-care and loses independence.

Patients who cannot afford treatment rely on other family members to look for the needed funds. Children stop schooling, savings are used up, objects of value are sold, and all the earnings of those who work are used to pay for dialysis. This results to families that are impoverished because of a single patient with kidney failure who needs treatment. The cost of treatment therefore is not limited to the cost of dialysis. Rather, the cost is multiplied a hundredfold, and becomes the burden of an entire family.

Transplantation as the best option

Foreign and local studies have shown that kidney transplantation offers the best option for patients with kidney failure. The quality of life of a transplant patient is superior to one on dialysis (Lagula et al Philippine Journal of Internal Medicine Jan-Feb 2002). A few months after the kidney graft is transplanted, the patient becomes strong enough to return to work, and soon becomes self-reliant. The family is able to rise from poverty and family members return to the labor force or continue with their education.

The cost of transplantation for a government-subsidized patient and his donor is about P200,000. It is a large amount to be paid at a single confinement and equals eight months of dialysis. However the patient recovers sufficiently and becomes healthy enough to go back to work, earning to pay for maintenance medications, which now costs about P12,000 per month, or 48% of the monthly cost of dialysis. It therefore becomes more cost-efficient to have a kidney transplant, than to be maintained on dialysis which is life-long.

The quest for transplantation

Patients who develop kidney failure see transplantation as the only solution to regain their lost lives. Funds are sourced to pay for the medical evaluation required for this major operation. For those who are found medically suitable to undergo transplantation, a willing kidney donor is needed.

Deceased donor kidneys have been sources of kidneys for decades. Patients who lose brain function are sources of organs for the living.

In the Philippines though, despite years of advocacy promoting deceased organ donation, only about 20 transplants from these donors are performed each year. Barriers to this program include the difficulty of families of the deceased to give their consent while the heart is still beating, or guilt when the potential donor’s wishes were not known, and the fear of organs being removed from a loved one.

Majority of transplants from deceased donors function immediately, due to improvements in supportive care for the potential donor. An increase in the number of transplants from deceased donors relies on referrals from all hospitals admitting patients with massive brain injury from vehicular accidents, trauma, or brain catastrophes like a stroke. Likewise, a massive educational campaign is needed to inform Filipinos about the concept of brain death, and to make deceased organ donation culturally acceptable.

Donors from relatives are the usual first source of organs. Parents, siblings, uncles or aunts, nephews or nieces and first cousins are immediately informed of the need for an organ. Many relatives assist patients with kidney failure and volunteer as donors.

Unfortunately, diabetes and hypertension, which are the leading causes of kidney failure today usually run in families. Thus many times immediate relatives become unsuitable donors. Likewise, even when a relative is willing, a blood test that determines whether a certain individual can be a donor or not, is positive, meaning the donor is unsuitable.

The shortage of organs has led to spousal donation. And with the huge success of transplantation from these unrelated donors due to improvements in medicines given to prevent a transplant patient from rejecting an organ, transplantation from non-related donors has become an acceptable and viable option. Donor sources have expanded to friends, in-laws, church-mates or co-employees. The sources of organs have multiplied.

Many studies have been done on kidney donors too. Taking away one kidney from someone with normal kidney function allows the donor a normal life. In studies on donors, there is a slight risk for developing high blood pressure and finding small amounts of protein in the urine—after 20 to 30 years from donation. But this has not been found to be progressive. Kidney donation thus remains a safe procedure with minimal long-term effects and donors should have their health status regularly monitored.

Kidney disease burden may be alleviated by transplantation

Transplantation has become the answer to many patients with kidney failure. At the NKTI, 277 Filipinos received a kidney transplant in 2007. From this number, 106 (38%) patients were partially subsidized by the Institute for the transplant. The transplanted kidneys came from 130 related donors (47%), 120 non-related donors (43%), and 27 deceased donors (10%).

In the country, 510 Filipinos received a kidney transplant last year, according to data from the Philippine Renal Disease Registry Annual Report in 2008. Among these, 170 (33%) transplants came from related donors, 313 (61%) from non-related donors, and 27 (5%) from deceased donors. The number of transplants last year, compared to the number who developed kidney failure, was only 14%. Even if we assume that only half of those patients were found to be medically suitable for transplantation, only 14% of the patients would have been provided the option of kidney transplantation.

Kidney transplantation affords patients with kidney failure good health sufficient to resume their normal lives. With this second chance at life, a better lifestyle commonly emerges. Patients become smarter eaters, refrain from smoking and alcohol, and take better care of themselves. Dialysis remains an excellent option, but for those who have been transplanted, life just got better.

The Australian mining industry badly needs kababayans back home to turn dreams into realities. Unfortunately, it's not happening.
Why? Because we, overseas Pinoys, are too generous. Consequently, kababayans back home would spend the whole night (nagdamag) in Internet cafes playing games rather than job searching. :(

Tell you what? Buy her an iPad ... give her generous amount to play high stakes mahjong online. Ayaw lag katingala kon inig pauli nimo angtod ang imong makaon. Hehe ;) And you should be thankful wa masunog! ;D

Excellent tips from a silent observer. Hehe :) ;)

But has happened more than once ... babies&toddlers died ... left in cars during summer while mothers go inside the casino to gamble. :(

Me no compulsive gambler. Learned my lesson in my early 20s ... played mahjong 24 hrs nearly every weekend for more than a year ... strip ratio 4:1 ... lost 4X more than won ... hehehe ;) Promised myself to stop. Go to floating casino with balikbayans and gambled small amounts only very occasionally.

Only for the last 10 odd years been playing high stakes in casinos ... more exciting ... can't bring money into next life, anyway.

What really need is a smart young wife ... earner&saver ... not liberal spender ... take care of my money ... make it grow.
Be a fulltime houseband ... look after kids ... gives her more time to pursue her career. For me, more interesting than gambling.

Gambling machine a lot smarter nowadays ... equipped with camera to remember players ... linked with other machines ... perhaps, also with other casinos ... and even online. :) ;)
Title: Shana Mooyman
Post by: juan on May 30, 2015, 08:42:37 PM
PerthNow October 9, 2014 3:40pm
Kate Uren

Petite and pretty, it’s no great surprise Shana Mooyman worked as a model when she was a teenager. What’s not quite so obvious is what she does for a living now. The 24-year-old drives great hulking trucks and excavators — with wheels taller than she is — at an iron ore mine in the Pilbara.

“I’m used to people literally laughing when I tell them what I do,” she says. “They don’t believe it.”

Shana has been a FIFO worker for six years. She’s employed by mining services company Watpac as a mobile plant operator in Nullagine, two hours north of Newman. And her motivation is unambiguous — her wage of close to $150,000 a year is double what she could earn in Perth.

“You put on the high-vis and put your hair back and you do it for the money,” she says.

Despite her young age, Shana already has an impressive property portfolio. The latest addition is a top-floor holiday apartment in the tropical Queensland resort of Yeppoon. She also owns two houses — one in her home town of Bunbury, another in Baldivis — but doesn’t live in either of them. Instead, she and her partner, Matt Lewis, rent a room at a friend’s home.

But she is also acutely aware of the sacrifices she makes for that big pay packet. Her 12-hour shifts for 14 days in a row followed by a week off has taken its toll. Shana missed her own 21st birthday — along with countless parties for friends and other special times.

“You do miss out on a lot of events,” she says. “Then you’re only home for a week and to fit everything in and to fit everyone in, it’s busy. Sometimes you just want to sit back and do your own thing. You make these choices and I wouldn’t take any of it back because I do have these properties. I paid my car off in the first year — $20,000 in a year. I was loving it.”

Shana had started studying at TAFE to be a beauty therapist but shelved those plans when she realised how little they were paid. She picked up work as a promotional model, got a daytime job as an administrator and worked nights at a tavern in Bunbury.

Then a friend, who was working FIFO, introduced Shana to mining. Back then, companies were taking on “greenies” — those with no experience. With only her manual licence needed, Shana learnt to drive mining trucks “with wheels that were bigger than me”.

Initial plans were to be a FIFO worker for a year.

“I said I would do it for a year and it’s well past that now. I don’t want to be in mining forever. We’re setting ourselves up now,” says Shana, who is studying for a diploma in safety so she can expand her options. “I still don’t know what I want to do. I don’t want to be an operator for another five years. The problem is if I was to come back to Perth, I would easily be halving my wage.”

Mark my words, skipper, should Felix land on a mining job here, mamuti na lang ang iyang bol2x, he'll still be at it.

Especially having Shana Mooyman as his workmate. 8) ;)

Now, we know it all. What was their warning? ??? "Tell juan to keep his mouth shut! Otherwise, di ka na maka pauli dinhi! Not ever"!!!!!

Too late to hide it now, mate! It's all around us now. The whole wide world knows the truth.

You'd have deleted my postings ages ago. Even banned me. In the end, it was the other way around.

Many must have advised you otherwise. You were basing your decision on the general consensus.

Too risky. I might dump my awesome collection into Facebook. Would be even more fun, wouldn't it? Hehe :) ;)

As I said to sh#thead willyramasola, "You're not the skipper! Don't jump the gun on him!"

But you let him jump the gun on you. Let him and the others carry on p#ssing on me.

Oh, yeah, they're gone from this site. But everyone knows they're still lurking behind. Prodding on active members to harass me.

In other sites, whenever foreign bigots attack me for my age preference, 16 - 25, my rebut runs like this,

WARNING!!!!! "TRAVEL IS FATAL TO PREJUDICE, BIGOTRY AND NARROW-MINDEDNESS" (Mark Twain)

In the Philippines, the rule of law is GGG(Guns, Goons and Gold). Speaking of gold, doesn't cost much to hire goons. No need to waste money on guns, either. Simply use a pinuti to hack off your genitals. Hehe :) ;)

Heard of the Filipino mafia? The deadliest mafia in the world? Its council of godfathers consists of Filipino retirees. Many married to young Pinays. OLD CARABAOS EAT YOUNG GRASS!

Certainly not a comforting thought, is it?

Ako gani gusto na mo-retire sa ato. Envisage myself being married to Adelyn ... bhala sya unsa-on akong kuarta ... di btw na madala nako sa la-ing kalibutan.

Pero sa tan-ao nako, she's too soft-hearted ... sayon ra binuangan ... hukhukan ... boyboyon ... etc. Kon pamilya lang nya, kayang-kaya kong susuportahin. But, then again, sa tan-ao nako nila, labao pa ka soft-hearted. ;D

But I envisage something like this will happen kon pananglit magkadayon mi ni Adelyn.
Now, like skipper, malou is carrying the cross all by herself. But, if I enter into Adelyn's world, she's gonna do everything she can to shed as much of her burden to Adelyn. Bsag unsa na lai iyang excuse aron dili jud makabalibad c Adelyn.

Mas sayon sla hukhukan. ;D ;)

Here's the guideline .....

Australia is confronting an aging population. Long story short, the Australian human race is an endangered species.

As such, it's imperative for every Aussie bloke to have as many female sexual partners as possible ... breed an entire herd;

Doesn't work for women ... one woman can't breed an entire herd.

The older the male sexual partner, the healthier and longer-living the offspring;

The older the female sexual partner, the higher the risk of having babies with Down Syndrome.

If still not enough, we import human species.

Selection criteria:
male must be as old as I am ... or even older;
female must be as young as Adelyn ... or even younger.

Please be guided accordingly.

Petite and pretty, it’s no great surprise Shana Mooyman worked as a model when she was a teenager. What’s not quite so obvious is what she does for a living now. The 24-year-old drives great hulking trucks and excavators — with wheels taller than she is — at an iron ore mine in the Pilbara.

mabuang ko nimo Juan
That's the idea! ;D
Next victim ... malou. :D
Not fair kon ako ra ang buang. Dapat Pantai2X tayong mga exiles. :) ;)

Seriously, kaning atong situation as exiles makabuang. Nabuktot ta sa trabaho, pero mga tao sa ato relax lang.

Biay2Xon ... holga-on ... huk2Xan ... libakon ... boy2Xon ... etc.

Recall the Yugoslav kitchen personnel in Koolan Island ... mga poor peasants sa ilaha ... hardknocks ... poorly educated ... English tipsing2X. Migrated here to have a better life ... bought houses in Perth for investment ... then, when had enough, left Koolan Island ... open food shop, eg., fish&chips in Perth.

When asked, "Do you send money home"? Replied, "No. If they want money, they can come here. Heaps of jobs in the mines". :)

Breaking the silence. ;)

"Abuse exists because of secrecy.
If I can use this platform and talk about it and break the silence,
somebody can get the help and support they need.
It's such a common problem, and it doesn't need to be.
All you have to do is talk about it and break the silence."

So handy talaga ang flag if you are an American citizen.

Yeah, handy! That rings a bell.

I acquired Australian citizenship few months after Senator Aquino was murdered. Became handy as I was not gonna return home for good anytime soon. Not a good idea. Nation was in turmoil.

Little did I know that I was never gonna return home FOR GOOD forever? :-\

Reminds me of Zulacs.
Emailed her, "Time to meet you face to face. Go to Baguio for our pre-nup honeymoon. Let me know when you're ready. Can jump on a plane anytime".
She backed out. Turned out gibinuangan lang ko. She wasn't really serious about us.

SHe was already showing interests in me. Came to my world months earlier. Pursued SHe.

Zulacs didn't like it. Hadlok malupigan. Crab mentality. Broke confidentiality agreement. And .....
Made my life even more complicated ... created more enemies for me.

Zulacs not beautiful ... her sex-appeal lies in her being an engineer. Apart from that, she has nothing to brag about, as far as I'm concerned. :)
