Migrated to Australia in '80. Plan was to stay here 5 years max. Amass a small fortune -- then, return home to start an electrical construction business.
In '83, Sen. Aquino was murdered. Political climate in Philippines deteriorated -- on the brink of civil war. Expected to fall into communism anytime soon.
When Marcos left Philippines in '86, economy was bankrupt -- people's power but no peso power.
Looking back through all those years, best time to return home would've been in the late '80s when mall construction was starting to boom in Cebu. But children were already deeply rooted here. Not a good idea to uproot them. Besides, na-uso ang kidnapping sa ato.
Now, want to go home to retire -- marry a young grass. Nakapag hinuog awai -- kai ang gusto nla akong pili-on losyang!
