Aug. 22, 2009. Manila. The Australian donate PHP123 million (AUD 3M) to finance project that will give strength to the country’s ability to adapt to climate change.
Australia ambassador Rod Smith said the Philippines is among Asian countries most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. With funds being made available, various government and non-government agencies will be able to implement project such “Improving Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Management System,” among many others.
The announcement was made during the 13th Asia Pacific Policy Forum at the Renaissance Hotel in Makati city. Smith added that “while natural disasters cannot be avoided, we can now significantly reduce the exposure and vulnerability of our people by increasing their knowledge and understanding of natural hazards.”
